It is the stated objective of the staff and management of Tofo Scuba to provide to our customers the highest standard of quality and service as it relates to scuba diving and scuba diver training.

This commitment to service excellence will be seen in our desire and ability to continually improve the standard of both our student training programs and our daily casual diver charters.

Of prime importance to us, is the safety and well being of all our customers and students. We will be measured by our ability to always supply well-maintained, safe diving equipment, good quality air and fully equipped, seaworthy dive boats at all times.

We undertake to always foster an environment conducive to the safer learning and enjoyment of scuba diving in a friendly and relaxed manner. Our attitude toward scuba diving and diver training will always be conservative.

John Pears
John Pears is co-owner of Tofo Scuba, he was born in Pretoria South Africa, he moved to Margate where he owned the hotel Kenilworth on Sea. There he helped pioneer diving on Protea Banks. 14 years ago he started the diving at Barra Lodge, soon after Tofo Scuba was started by himself and Nikki. John is a NAUI, PADI and IANTD advanced Nitrox instructor and is also a genius with anything that needs to be fixed, a big plus in Mozambique. He has recently become a very proud father and his little boy keeps him busy when he is not at work.
   

Nikki Pears
Nikki Pears is co-owner of Tofo Scuba, she was born in Johannesburg South Africa. She qualified as a veterinary nurse at the university of Pretoria and then came to Mozambique for a 2 week holiday and fell madly in love with her instructor John. Together they ran the Barra Lodge dive centre which they then sold and started Tofo Scuba. Nikki is both a NAUI and PADI instructor and is also a very keen environmentalist, she has been involved in various conservation projects in the area, the biggest one being the stopping of local shark fining. Her life has recently changed as she has become a mommy to the beautiful baby, Cooper Alexander Pears!
   

Steven Counsel
Steven Counsel is a PADI Instructor and Manager of Tofo Scuba. He hails from Manchester and is full of positivity, good energy, vibrancy and vitality. He has lived and worked in Mozambique for the past five years and before that ran his own business in Cape Town. He is Manchester United?s biggest fan and loves all sport and his PlayStation 3.
   

Joan Bestler
Joan Bestler was born in Munich, Germany and has been living and diving in Mozambique for the past four years. In fact, she has been diving for more than 10 years in various beautiful places around the world and just loves and enjoys the underwater world. Two years ago she joined the ranks of Tofo Scuba skippers and has been our head instructor for the past year and a half. She is in charge of all our dive master trainees and is an integral part of our dream team.
   

Ritchie van Wyk
Ritchie van Wyk was born and grew up in the small town of Mtunzini in South Africa, spending most of his time surfing and wakeboarding before moving to Mozambique 3 years ago. He started his open water at Tofo Scuba and progressed through to his instructors. His current qualification is MSDT and his specialities include deep, drift, nitrox, navigation and underwater photography. He is relaxed and is passionate about the environment and is they guy who always sees the coolest creatures.
   

Michael Fowler

Michael Fowler is currently a MSDT, EFR Instructor and his specialties include deep, night, wreck, navigation, search and recovery, fish identification, digital underwater photography, drift, underwater naturalist and peak performance buoyancy. He was born and raised in East London, in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa and is an enthusiastic and fun loving guy. His passions besides diving include bodyboarding, rugby, squash and athletics.

   

Carlos Macuacua
Carlos Macuacua is the first Mozambican to have attained dive Instructor status, and has been with us from open water through to instructor. He is a gentle and friendly giant of a man, who has a keen interest in promoting Mozambique and protecting the ocean and sea life. He is quite the local celebrity, and his nickname is big brother!
   

Stavros Carvounes
Stavros Carvounes has just completed his staff instructors and shark specialities in Port Elizabeth, he is extremely competent and has a really good if somewhat unusual sense of humour, and hails from East London. He is knowledgeable and environmentally conscious and loves what he does.
   

Warrick Harvey
Warrick Harvey is an MSDT who was born and raised in East London. He is a proficient and patient instructor, who has a quirky and fun sense of life. He is keen on all adventures sports and loves diving.
   

Mette Birk Nielsen

Mette Birk Nielsen is an MSDT, born in Denmark and has dived in eight different countries all over the world, Asia, the meditteranean, the red sea and scandanavia. She has been a diving instructor for three years and her specialities include wreck diving, underwater digital photography, deep diving, night diving and nitrox. She is bright and energetic and loves teaching people about the underwater world.
